Mending my way

I enjoy reading an email called “A Phrase a Week.” It is a short explanation, background, and history of phrases we commonly use, but have no idea when or how they originated.

What can I tell you about “mending my way”? Nothing. It has not yet been covered and I haven’t a clue about where it started or how it was variously used in the past.

However, like me, you may have used the phrase “mending my way” before. Even without an explanation, you probably understand what it means without giving it a second thought (what does that tell us about how conditioned we are?).

Instead of a little history lesson, I need to set about “correcting my mistakes,” as the phrase seems to imply. Well, I need to fix at least one mistake (because I would need reams of paper to put everything right).

Last week, you received (or could download from the website) a copy of the Bible reading guide for November and December.

If you are using this Bible reading guide, you may have noticed that part of the reading included Job 1-22 again (which we read in October). I went back to the original guides and discovered that in October we should have read Ecclesiastes and Song of Solomon instead of Job 1-22.

So, this week, please find a revised, corrected, amended copy of the November-December guide available here November and December 2007 as well as above. I hope this puts me out of the dog-house and directs you in your Bible reading down the strait and narrow way.

If “A Phrase a Week” ever addresses “mending my way,” I’ll let you know!
