Hold the Ropes

Hello Everyone!

During my college days at the Bible school there was a phrase used to remind us of our partnership with and responsibility to missionaries and other brothers and sisters in Christ. While not original with my school, many groups have used this phrase to inspire and challenge the progress of the church and the work Jesus Christ is completing in each of us through prayer. I believe it was an old nautical expression originating in the days when ships were powered by the wind in the sails. You are probably familiar with the expression as well, from days gone by.

“Hold the ropes.”

Among believers, “hold the ropes” became analogous to fervently praying most often for a missionary’s work, but could also include all believers, depending on the context.

It seems that God has a special assignment for us this week??Ǩ?to pray. With an unusual number of letters from our missionaries, reports of God’s blessing in answered prayer, and what seems to be an overwhelming stack of new and revised prayer requests??Ǩ?it is enough.
