The article I made available to you a week ago, “A letter to the Global Church from the Protestant Church of Smyrna,” is, at best, only partially accurate.
I don’t like to be duped. I don’t want to be part of spreading inaccurate information, either. Before sending the letter to you, I did check the website at the end of that letter, but could not find a Turkish to English website translator. Then, I “Googled” the identified reporter, but no definitive match was made. Google her name or the title of the letter now and there is a long line of groups and individuals who have posted it on their websites and blogs, as I had. All of this doesn’t excuse not being more careful in verifying the letter.
I have attached another letter that questions the accuracy of the details of the first letter and proposes why such a letter might have been scripted. This second letter is not signed anonymously, it identifies by name those who became eye-witnesses after the murders, the letter comes from a trusted verifiable source, and a few of the men quoted in the letter have added their personal endorsement and approval. That is more than sufficient evidence to pass this on to you with confidence. But, don’t simply take my word for it, check these things out for yourself, and if you come to a differing conclusion, help us all to know the truth. Above all, ask God to shower His saving grace on the people of Turkey.
On the third page are some reflections from Dr. Mark Wilson who was our teacher in Turkey last January. He was present at one of the funerals of the recently martyred Turkish Christians. His thoughts are comforting and will strengthen your faith.
